Set Lighting Technician
What is a Set Lighting Technician?
SLT is a position on a set lighting crew for film and video. SLT works directly under the Assistant Chief Lighting Technician and also takes direction from the Chief Lighting Technician or Gaffer
Primary duties
- Build and disassemble lamps for lighting sets
prep and build fixtures in a head wrapped position on standby at Set Lighting Staging or send them directly to set to be powered and dialed in by the Gaffer.
- Run power for lamps
Lamps that are prepped from the Set Lighting Departments Lighting Package will need power ran to it. Set Lighting departments lighting package also includes power distribution for the fixtures in the package. Also, if applicable, a pre rigging electric team will have additional distro distributed around the set or in a staging area.
- Operate lamps
Follow Direction of the Gaffer to dial in lamps.
- Operate lighting gags
Turning on/off, dimming up/down, or doing any other sort of manipulating to create a lighting effect
- Specialty operator: Condor Op, scissor lift Op, and Underwater Lamp Tech
Require official certification from a 3rd party. Pay bumps for working as a specialty operator.
