24x36 Single Net
24x36 Double Net

Nets are made from bobbinet, a black screen like fabric that is used to reduce the intensity of a source. Nets have flame retardants like Duvetyne. There are two main densities: a single net, which reduces a half stop, and a double net that reduces a full stop of light. Nets come in all kinds of sizes, 18inx24in, 24inx36in, 4by, 6, 8, 12, 20by, etc. Smaller nets have an open side to the framing that allows the cut of the light to feather off and be more blended. Nets have a 3/8th inch pin for placing in grip heads.

Uses

Nets are used to reduce the intensity of light or a part of its beam. Nets can be placed on the outside of a window instead of using ND gel, but you cannot stack when they are in the shot or else you’ll see a moire effect in-camera. You also must use a single layer net as double layer nets will also moire.

Troubleshooting

Substitutions

ND filters are a gel and do the same thing as a net. They will shift the color slightly, but it is negligible. They can be only be substituted in rare instances.
