Working with Multiple Shop Techs

There are some days where we will have a large amount to do and we'll hire multiple shop techs to do the work faster. Here are some notes to be most efficient about this.

The main goal with having multiple shop techs is to have the smoothest flow possible. This means making sure that your work will not negatively affect the others in the shop.

  • Complete orders from start to finish as fast as possible.

If you have two shop techs, this means both will work on the same order until it is completed. Even if this means making multiple trips to a sub-rental vendor for different orders. The main bottleneck we have is space in our shop and we don't have enough room to pick two orders at once.

  • The only thing that can be done simultaneously is a small gear order

This can be checked in either by using the RFID scanner or you are also able to use the barcode scanner connected to the computer. This should only be done with small gear orders with not a lot of items.

  • Pick List and Return List pages should be split up between working shop techs

This ensures that nobody is working on the same thing, and helps avoid confusion with picking the same item twice, etc.

  • Don't start Scanning until after Quantity Items have been applied

It can be very difficult to figure out what needs to be scanned if you still have many quantity items left or do not have all RFID items picked yet.

  • While one person scans, the other person can focus on other tasks related to that order

For returns this can include doing cleaning and QC steps that are later in the process. Try your best not to go too far ahead in the activity app as this can cause issues. If you cannot find much to do at this point, help them make improvements to the scanning process. This can mean replacing tags or repositioning them.

  • Best time to pick up/return subrentals is during scanning

Since there is very little to do while the other person is scanning, picking up or returning subrentals is best done at this point.
