Using Carts in the Shop

Carts should be used in the shop almost at all times when transporting equipment. This is to reduce motion in picking up and moving items around and reduce injury.

  • Carts should be pushed as close as possible to where the equipment needs to be unloaded.
  • If items are taken off of a cart and not put onto a shelf, they should go onto another cart.

An example of this is if you are counting items, they should be counted from one cart and then onto another cart. They should not be placed on the ground.

  • If you are loading things onto another cart, do not load the items onto the ground for another person to then load onto the cart. The carts should be placed closer together and loaded directly from one cart to another.
  • When checking in gear that is in hampers pull all gear from the hamper onto a rubbermaid cart for easier scanning/visual inspection.

Carts make everything we do more efficient and easier. If you are ever carrying anything, you should stop and ask yourself how you could be using a cart instead.
