Tracked By is a field within every item to tell you how we track that item in our inventory. There are 4 different ways to do that.

RFID These items have a barcode affixed to them, but the barcode is also an RFID tag. These items can be scanned from a distance and do not have to be individually scanned. They can also be checked in or out by scanning the barcode. When scanning items that are tracked by RFID, they must be separated from items not on the order as there is a great risk of accidentally scanning additional items.

Bar Code These items have physical barcodes affixed to them and can be checked in and out with a barcode scanning device. We use these for things that are easily mixed in with an order. Hampers are a good example of this as sometimes they will be used to stage an order, but not put on the order themselves as the equipment is downloaded out of them and put onto the truck. By making it a barcoded item, you must physically go and scan the item.

Quantity Quantity items are items that we are physically counting and telling the computer they are there. Quantity items often times have a lot of mistakes associated with them so the inventory count associated with these items should be trusted much less and more care should be taken to checking them in and out. This is a last resort for items where we cannot physically affix an RFID tag, usually they are small or an RFID tag would be damaged through physical use.

Serial Number These are items that we track by the serial number that has been printed onto the object by the manufacturer. We do not use this method of tracking, but some rental houses will use this as a way to track expensive globes.
