Every other year we will need to clean all of the stands on the trucks. The following year we will replace the stands on the trucks with the stands in the shop. This process should be repeated, year 1 clean, year 2 switch.

Tools Needed

  • Nitrile Gloves
  • 000 Steel Wool
  • Paper Towels
  • Rubber Mallet
  • Car Wax

Process

If you want to do this quickly, 3-4 people is ideal. With this amount of people it can be done in a single day.

Setup 3 spray bottles and 3 steel wool pads so everyone can clean if need be.

With 3 people, have 1 person feed the 2 people with stands to clean on carts. By the time they finish a cart of stands, they will have another cart ready and will be able to take the old ones back. Its only necessary to clean the ones that are on the trucks.

The 1 person who is feeding will also check for bad feet (or you have a seperate person who just fixes feet) and then also checks for damaged tags and tries to replace them or moves tags around that need to be repositioned.

  • Spray the car wax on the 000 steel wool and on the rust. Rub of the rust with the steel wool. For C-Stands make sure to raise the top two legs so that you can get underneath them.
  • For all stands, raise all risers one at a time and continue with the car wax to remove any rust. When you are raising each riser, make sure they are easy to raise. If not and cleaning the rust does not make it easier, it is most likely bent. For C-stands try and raise the top leg and see if the center column is bent and will not allow it to slide up.

Make a trello card with which riser is needed and the barcode of the affected stand. You can use the barcode scanner hooked to the computer to scan barcode numbers into the trello card. Once you are done you can order any needed replacements.

  • Once the rust is removed dry the riser and legs with paper towels
  • put colored sticker dot on stand, pick a color and put it in the year end tasks trello card for this year.

If you have any stands that are so damaged that they cannot be immediately fixed, take a stand from the shop to replace it and have the feeder put it into repair. If you have a 4th person and parts they can work on repairing it.

Replacing Feet

  • Use an 1/8" Roll Pin Punch to punch out the roll pin that is holding the foot into the stand.
  • Remove the old food from the bottom of the stand.

To do this you can use a screwdriver to pry out the old food, you can also use a screwdriver with the flathead bit and a hammer to create a hole that you can then pry out the plastic with. You can also use a matte knife to cut the side of the foot and get it off.

  • Pound the new feet in with a hammer.
  • Drill the roll pin hole out with an 1/8" drill bit.
  • Using the roll pin seating tool pound the new roll pin in.
