Span Sets
A lifting sling made from several wraps of natural polyester fiber covered by a double-wall tubular webbing that is sewn together at the ends. They are measured from end to end. These are used by the grip department for heavy rigging.
The slings themselves offer a huge strength-to-weight ratio compared to steel slings or chains. The ultra-low stretch also plays a big role in its usability. At the working load limit of each span sets, they only stretch 3% of their length. They are susceptible to fire damage though and steel safeties should be considered when rigging using span sets.
Uses
It can be wrapped around a truss or beam to suspend it from a higher point. Each way the span set is wrapped creates a different weight rating. When using around a beam or anything else with sharp edges it is essential to protect the span set from the edge of it with some type of padding to prevent any movement from potentially cutting into the span set itself.
The span set is pliable and can be used in a choker shape, this prevents it from sliding along the beam or truss. Draped under the beam in a U or basket shape is the strongest.
They will have a tag sewn on that will specify different weight ratings with different configurations. As you increase the angle of your basket, your weight rating will decrease.
