A softbox overhead is an enclosed soft source made from grip equipment. The size can range usually from 4'x 4' to 20'x20' in size, square, rectangular or cylindrical, however, the size can truly be whatever is necessary. The structure can vary depending on the specs, some lighting fixtures may need an additional baffle and others may need to be further away from the diffusion. The bottom face is always some sort of diffusion and the sides are blacked out.
- Softboxes are usually built on the ground and hoisted into the air. This is usually using a grid in a studio via pulleys, chain motors.
- Softboxes can also be rigged to Grade Alls or Condors for exterior locations.
