Socapex is a type of cable with a 19-pin electrical connector. There are 6 sets of hot, neutral, and ground pins, as well as a center pin for alignment. This is also just called Soca for short.
These cables are used for two purposes:
- For lights that have a panel mounted socapex receiver. Most of the time these are tungsten lights that have a number of different globes in them. Because you're using the Socapex cable that has individual hots and neutrals, it allows each bulb to be individually controlled.
- Used along with a breakout and a dimmer pack to individually control tungsten lights, but instead you can patch up to 6 different lamps into one socapex cable.
- Used with a break-in and a breakout to provide hot power for LEDs.
Accessories
- Socapex break-out - consists of a male Socapex connector with six female Edison plugs.
- Socapex break-in - is the opposite, consisting of a female Socapex connector and 6 male Edison plugs. These are used to either connect Socapex cables to Edison only dimmer packs or hot power.
- Socapex Splitter - Allows you to split a socapex cable into 2 runs of socapex.
- Zen Box - Allows you to pick which direction you want your soca to go through the splitter. This can be used if you want to power two sets with one dimmer pack and pick which set you're on.
- Socapex to 60a Bates - Connector that allows you to plug in a 60a bates unit, such as a 5k, to a socapex cable. This will allow you to dim it via the dimmer pack with your existing socapex run.
