Retire Items in Rentalworks
There are different terms in this article, if you make an item inactive, you are making that item inactive in our system. It will be hidden from search and all items inside will be hidden. If you retire an item, you are just deleting one instance of that item and we will still keep it in our system.
Retire Items
This can be done from any page in rentalworks.
- Click Main Hamburger menu > Utilities > Inventory Retire Utility
Utilities is the icon that looks like a wrench.
- Scan Barcode
- Select a Reason
- Type in Quantity
If there are any notes you’d like to type in, then click retire items.
Retire Quantity items
- Click Main Hamburger menu > Utilities > Inventory Retire Utility

- Scan Icode
- Select a Reason
- Type in Quantity
If there are any notes you’d like to type in, then click retire items.
Unretire Items
If item was made “Inactive” and you wish to reverse this, check the “Show All” box at the bottom right-hand corner of the Rental Inventory. Find the item and then click the Active checkbox to reactivate it.
- Go to the Item
Find this in the Asset list. You will have to click Show Retired in view.
- Select the Retired History tab
- Double click the item in the retired history
- Select unretire item
It will be a large blue button.
Provide a reason for unretiring the item and a quantity that you wish to return to the inventory. You can add any notes for further description.
