Deciding which work you've shot to put on your website can be very difficult and there's a number of factors you should look at before ultimately deciding to put it on there as a way for you to get work. Some questions you should ask are:

  • Do you want to shoot more of this type of content?
  • Do you think it looks good?
  • Does it have any name talent or recognizable faces in it?
  • Do you want to show it to everyone?

In the end, not only do you have to be proud of it, but it also has to help you to get the kind of work that you'd like in the future. You don't want to fill your website with music videos when you have no interest in doing music videos.

Uploading Content

Obviously the best files will come from the source, so if you can get Quicktime files from the production company of the piece that you can upload to your Vimeo, that will be ideal. This is not always possible though, so you have to do a number of work arounds.

Embedding video

Embed the video on your website from youtube, Vimeo, or other places. This can prevent further degradation of the video, but there is a trade off in that you don't control it. If they take it down, it's lost unless you can get a Quicktime file from them. This can also end up looking sloppy if you have a number of different embeds from youtube, facebook, Instagram, etc.

Download from Youtube

You can use the program MacX Youtube Downloader to download your videos off of youtube so that you can upload them from your Vimeo account.
