Lighting Plot
- Start a new file
- Choose a scale
Choose a scale that works for the size of the space the scene takes place in.
- click on the single white page icon
The icon is in the top right.
- Select Scale
Halfway down on the right click the drop-down menu button that says ‘select size’.
- Turn on ruler and grid
Top menu bar View>show ruler and show grid
Building the layers of your lighting plot
- Environment layer
In this layer make key features of the environment that the scene takes place in. Examples: room shape, furniture, windows, doors, trees, landscape features, vehicles, etc.
- Rectangle, Oval, and Line Tools
Use the tools at the top of the plot to make the environment assets. Use black as the color.
- Color and Line Size of Environment Assets
Select an asset you made. Click on the yellow oval and red square icon on the top right. Here you can change line color, fill color, line size, and line style as well as rotate the asset selected.
- Add New Layer
Select the multiple white page icon at the top right. Bottom right is a '+' to add a new layer
- Name Layer Camera and Talent"
- Add Camera Asset
Click on the white fixture icon (looks like a source-4) at the top right menu. Click the gear icon on the right labeled 'Key'. Select 'load key'. load Bolt Fixtures key. in there is an Alexa Mini icon. use this for any type of camera.
- Place Camera Asset
With the camera asset selected in the key. Click the fixture tool at the top left of the screen and click where you want to place that asset. Don't forget to use the Degrees wheel in the key window to give it proper direction.
- Create Talent Assets
Use the Oval Tool to create talent. Place a T inside and use the bottom of the T to indicate which way they are facing.
- combining Asset Elements to make One Asset
Select all the asset elements by clicking and dragging over all of them. Make sure not to have other assets selected. go to menu>format>group
- Create New Layer - Fixtures
This layer will contain all the fixtures to light the scene
- Place fixtures
Choose the types of fixtures by loading the different manufacture keys. When you click on a fixture within the key, on the bottom of the key window will tell you what type of fixture it is.
