Lens flares are when light hits the lens and reflects the shape of the optics into the image.
- Lens Flares will change depending on your T-Stop. Usually the more wide open the T-Stop, the larger the lens flare will be. You will also notice some characteristics may change depending on the T-Stop. An example of this is very small T-Stops may get sunbursts due to diffraction while you may experience rainbow flares on some lenses wide open.
- In order to get lens flares the sun must be either low in the sky or you must be using a wide lens.
- Lens selection also will have a big affect on your ability to flare the lens. Some lenses will flare easier than others.
Types of Flares
Veiling Flares - These just wash out the contrast of an image.
