The Honda EU7000 is a wheelbarrow-type portable generator used by the Electric Department to power Lighting when a power source is not available or additional power is needed. You can use the generator on its own or with accessories depending on the needs of your rig.

How to Start

Before you start the generator, make sure nothing is blocking the air intake on top of the opposite side from the controls as well as the exhaust hose on the same side as the intake.

  • Push to Start

Turn the on/off knob to the on position and press the electric push start. There is a manual pull start in one of the side panels if for some reason the electric start is not working.

  • Turn Off

Before you save the generator make sure all lighting equipment is powered down and that there is no one else using the generators power, like DIT, before you turn the on/off knob to the off position.

Components of Generator

  • 120v and 120v/240v switch

there is a switch below the electric start button. 120v setting allows you to use the 30a 3 pin twist lock connector. the 120v/240v allows you to use the 4 pin twist lock connector. if you plan on using the 60a transformer with the 7000w generator, you'll want to make sure the switch is turned to 120v/240v. If you want to use the 60A bates courtesy outlet on the side of the generator it needs to be in 120v only.

  • Breakers

There are white push button breakers on the top right of the control panel of the generator. one each for the courtesy outlets, one for the 30a 3 pin twist lock and a breaker switch for the 240v 30a 4 pin connector. if you trip any one of these breakers, turn on the power draw source and press in the breaker.

  • Gas Tank Reservoir Access and Guage

On top of the generator is the gas access to fill the generator with gas. We put in unleaded premium gas, which is higher quality cleaner gas burning fuel. Next to the reservoir access is a fuel gauge that tells you how much gas is left in the tank.

Running power

When you are running power from the generator you'll want to run power lines in clean straight lines when there is a turn involved in running power make clean 90 degree turns. Try to run the cables out of the way of high traffic areas, if you must cross a high traffic area you can use rubber matting or cable cross overs. Use cable crossovers especially when vehicle traffic is present. Seperate each cable type, try not to let them cross over each other, this will help replacing trouble cables quickly if there is issues with your cable.

Note: Our generators run at a slightly higher voltage 126.5/253volts. The allowable voltage drop at 126.5v is 3.79v and at 253v is 7.59v.

  • Rule: Running an m40 with 60a bates, you can run up to 275ft before you get in unallowable voltage drop.

Troubleshooting

Because the floating neutral it is not bonded to the grounds in the generator, Honda said it was by design because they originally designed these generators to act as back up power for your building so the thought is you would bond the ground to your house ground when you go to backfeed the power into your building. The 40v voltage leak is normal for all 6500 and 7000w Hondas
