It is very important to properly separate the garbage at the shop - both to keep our Landlord happy, but also to avoid getting a penalty passed on to us from the City of Berkeley regarding improper waste disposal. There are four separate waste bins in our lot, below is a breakdown of what items can go into which bins:
Recycling
- Glass, Plastic, and Cans.
- All bottles/containers/cans need to be CLEANED and EMPTIED before being placed in the recycling bin.
- Any scrap cine foil.
- For glass, all colors; lids and labels can stay on.
- Any plastic bottle - lids are OK if attached.
- Any clean rigid plastic container that fits in the bin, including dairy-product tubs, "clamshell" containers, buckets, planter pots (please remove all dirt), food trays (from inside packaged food), and plastic cups.
- NO: Small plastic items (examples: utensils, hot cup lids, loose caps, condiment cups).
- NO: Plastic Bags
- NO: Styrofoam.
- NO: Non-rigid food packaging (snack bags & other "soft" plastic packages).
- NO: Light bulbs, dishes, windows, or glass bakeware - they melt at a different temperature than bottles
Recycling (Paper/Cardboard)
- Any paper or cardboard.
- It's okay to include metal staples, clips, glue, labels, and plastic windows; it's not okay to include tissue, or photographs.
- Paper must be CLEAN
- Paper shredder must be emptied into a paper bag and then recycled.
Food/Organic Waste
