First Day in the Shop
Thank you for coming in today to work your first day at the shop. You'll find that a lot of the things we do have been thought about very carefully and all require careful instruction. It's very important that you follow each note or instruction around the shop very closely to minimize mistakes. If you ever have questions about what an instruction means, it's not only your job to ask for clarification, but it's up to you to change it and make it more clear for the future.
General Overview
Start Time - 8:30AM
- Please try to always be on time.
5S and 2 Second Improvement Time 8:30am - 9:00am
Returns/Subrentals 9:30am
- Shop Tech: Follow the QuickActivity Calendar which will usually begin with returns and sub-rentals.
- Rental Manager: Focus on emails and try to reach inbox zero. Coordinate sub-rentals for the day. You may have to pick up sub-rentals this same day. Keep in touch with Subrental Vendors to communicate your plan for the day. You may be able to return later.
Break Time - 10:30AM - 10:45
Work Time 10:45 - 12:30
- Now is the time to return subrentals.
- Once you return, follow the QuickActvity Calendar.
Lunch Time - 12:30pm - 1:00pm
- Make sure you clock out and clock back in from lunch.
- Lunch is your time. Do not work, pick up phone calls, do anything during this time.
- You may take up to an hour lunch. A half hour lunch puts you out of work by 5pm, an hour at 5:30. This is up to your discretion.
Work Time: 1:15 - 3:30pm
- Shop Tech: Continue with QuickActivity Calendar. If you finish, you can look in the Trello board for any projects to work on. Ask the Rentals Manager for help to decide what to work on.
- Rental Manager: Complete Daily Check In
- Rental Manager: For remainder of the day, make sure inbox is zero and if you have free time, check the projects board.
Break Time - 3:30pm-3:45pm
Work Time 3:45 - 5:00pm
- Shop Tech: Continue what you were doing earlier. Complete the closing checklist before you complete your day.
- Rental Manager: Complete closing checklist for Rental Manager
Clock Out - 5:00 - 5:30pm
- Do not work any additional overtime without prior approval. Seek approval in the Purchasing-Staffing-OT slack channel.
- Depending on the length of your lunch, you could clock out as late as 5:30 to equal an 8 hour day.
In addition to documenting improvements, we also ask that you document anywhere you have made a mistake or you are struggling during the day. We do this as a way for us to come up with new improvements and to make a process that wasn't clear more clear. Every mistake is an opportunity to do better.
At the end of the day, your mistakes/struggles will be entered into the closing checklist and they will be saved to slack so we can go over them the next morning.
