Firmware Updates

Firmware is the bridge between hardware and software. It tells the hardware how to operate and interact with other components. Often times will fix bugs or stability issues, it can also add new features or improve performance.

Reasons to Update Firmware

Updating firmware can be a very time consuming process and as a result should only be updated for specific reasons. We do not update firmware because a new version is released. Don't fix it if it isn't broken.

The only two reasons to update firmware are:

• New Features for lighting units that drastically change the way the unit operates
• Updates to fix existing issues reported by clients.

Updating Firmware

• Search for [Product] [Manufacturer] Firmware Update - so 1200x Aputure Firmware update
• Search for How to Update [Manufacturer] Firmware - How to update aputure firmware and follow instructions you find.
• After updating the firmware do the standard QC.
• Go to asset > barcode item you are updating > usage tab > update the firmware version number that you have just updated.
• If the light must be plugged in while you update the firmware, make sure to update this firmware version number for both the head and the ballast.

Aputure lights for example have firmware in both the head and the ballast, while litemats only have firmware in the ballast.
