Crossfade Quasar Tubes
The crossfade quasar tube comes in 8', 4’ and 2’ lengths. They’re an LED array, bi-color, and can change from 2000k to 6000k. They have a built in ballast and diffuser into each bulb. These units have been phased out and replaced by Astera tubes in most situations. The Quasars did not perform very well with low end dimming and were only dimmable via dmx, but color could not be controlled, they were also only Bi-Color and not RGB.
Uses
The tubes can be used as a normal fixture, quite similar to a kino flo or Litemat. The great thing about them is because they are in tube form, you can take one out and use it as a separate light. The tubes are good for accent lights as they can be hidden behind set pieces to uplight or accent things in the background. They also can be built into large blanket light fixtures with 8 or more tubes behind a large soft good.
Crossfade tubes are flicker free up to 1500fps when in full daylight or tungsten mode.
When you dial in to a different color temperature, they are only flicker free up to 500fps.
While they come with the rubber quasar boots, we remove them from the units.

Accessories
Some things that can be used with the quasars are:
- Kino flo fixtures of any size. 2’ or 4’. To make this easier there are also harnesses that can connect 4 tubes together and output them to one plug. If Multi Harness are not available, a Cube Tap can connect at least 3 tubes together.
- LED dimmers can be used to dim them. Normal 1k hand dimmers will work too, but can’t go so far into the low end.
- Tube holders. There are both single, double, and quad tube holders.
Troubleshooting
There are not many user serviceable parts in the quasars. If the unit doesn’t come on, check that the unit is receiving power and the pigtail is properly connected. You can also try and swap the endcap with another tested unit. If it definitely is the unit, send it to JCX for repair.
Substitutions
Depending on what they are looking for, you may be able to give them litemats so they can get a fixture of similar size.
- Astera AX1 pixel tubes
- Astera Titan Tubes
- Litemats
