Creating a Presentation

Mostly we create presentations for workshops or online classes. We use Google Slides to create these presentations so they can stay natively in our google drive folder.

Be sure to include all assets used in your slide show in the google drive folder for the workshop itself. These pictures can be used for promotional purposes, so it's handy to have the full res images available.

Templates

When creating a new slideshow, use the standard Bolt template. You can do this by:

  • Select Slide > Change Theme
  • Click Import Theme at the bottom right.
  • Look for _Custom Bolt Theme and select it.
  • Import Bolt Theme and apply it to your slideshow.
  • Make sure you turn on slide numbers and click Insert > Slide Numbers

Slide numbers make it easier for you to realize how far into the presentation you are and hopefully give you a clue as to if you should speed up or slow down.

New Slides

  • When making a new slide press Insert > New Slide
  • Right click on the slide and press apply layout, then select the proper layout from the theme.

Presentations

It is preferable to have two monitors when doing a presentation. You'll click the Present button at the top right.

If you are doing an online presentation, make the scene with your presenter notes the monitor with the camera.

Recording Slideshows for Youtube

Before presenting your slideshow, record it using quicktime screen record in 5-10 minute chunks. This gives you the opportunity to give your presentation once before you actually do it, and records it for later use. Making them in shorter 5-10 minute chunks makes them more viewable and easier to change in the future.
