We use Cable Bullets or Rope Holders to secure the rope to different pieces of cable as well as to put RFID tags on the cable. Some cables will have multiple ties on them and one will require an RFID tag while the other will get a bolt logo.

A cable bullet consists of

  • Red Piece
  • Blue piece with Window
  • Clear Window
  • 4 Self Tapping Screws
  • RFID Tag
  • Spacer
  • #4 White trick line or #8 black sash
  • Red and blue electrical tape

The main thing to remember is that cable bullets have to be tight. If you are struggling with a successful install of a cable bullet, it is because the cable bullet is not tight enough. They should not be able to slide around on the piece of cable at all and if anything should cinch down on the insulation for a tight fit.

Here are the rough steps to putting on a cable bullet. use a drill to make this easier.

  • Tie a knot with the piece of rope long enough to wrap around the cable twice.
  • Check to see if a spacer is needed, put the Blue Window, the Clear Window, the RFID tag, and the Red Piece on the cable and see how difficult it is to put it on. If it's loose, add a spacer.
  • You may need to add two spacers if the cable is very small, usually one is sufficient.
  • Start with two screws and just screw them in a little bit on the same long side.
  • Flip the cable bullet over and screw the next two screws in. You can alternate between these two pairs of screws to get the cable bullet all the way down.
  • once the cable bullet is installed. wrap the cable and tie it.
  • cut off the excess rope
  • Make sure you put red and blue electrical tape on the ends of the rope to prevent the ends from fraying.
