A C-Stand is a versitile piece of grip equipment used to grab many items including flags, nets, or diffusion. They come in multiple sizes, but the most common ones you will see are 40" and 20". The 20" is often times called a Gary Coleman or a Low C-Stand. The C in C-Stand stands for Century, there are a few potential ways it got its name. It's either because it was originally produced by Century Lighting or because the arm is 100cm long.

Uses

Used for grabbing flags, nets, and diffusion frames. You can also use these to arm out a light. We only own the Non-Spring Loaded version of the C-Stand, which gives you a rocky mountain leg so the C-Stand can be placed on uneven terrain by sliding the leg up higher on the post.

When you pick up a c-stand, you should always place your hand around the arm and the post. This ensures that when you pass it to someone else, your hand will not get crushed inbetween the arm and the post.

When using a C-Stand the gobo arm and head should always be placed on the right side with the big leg facing towards the item you are grabbing. This will ensure that when the weight of the item pulls down on the arm and head, it will tighten it. If placed on the left side it will loosen the head as it sags.

If sandbags are placed on a C-Stand they should be placed on the big leg, any additional sandbags can be placed anywhere on the stand as long as they do not touch the ground. Allowing the sandbag to touch the ground will reduce its effectiveness.

When stored everything should all be tightened.

Accessories

These two items are always seen with a C-Stand and are included as part of it.

  • Gobo Arm
  • Gobo Head

Other Accessories include

  • Shot Bag
  • Crutch Tips

Troubleshooting

If you are having issues with sliding the risers, one of them may be bent. You can either replace the riser, or attempt to bend it back. To bend it back you need to stem down the riser to the stuck portion, lay the stand flat and push down to bend it in the opposite direction.
