Wooden boxes of various dimensions that are standardized thoughout the industry. Apple boxes have hand holes and finger holes on the sides. Used by the grip department.
- Full Apple: 20"×12"×8"
- Half Apple: 20"×12"×4"
- Quarter Apple: 20"×12"×2"
- Pancake (1/8th Apple): 20"×12"×1"
One of each apple box is called a Family of Apple Boxes.
Uses
- Full apple is widely known to be used as a seat for all types of crew members.
- To raise up props or talent for correct framing
- Aid in leveling dolly track if you do not have Basso Blocks or Luma Beams
- A full apple box can be used as a small step ladder to get to a higher place
The positions of the apple boxes are 1, 2, 3 as they go up in height. So 1 is the lowest, 2, is the middle, 3 is the highest. It can also be referred to as LA, Chicago, New York, which refers to the geography of the reigion. LA being very flat, Chicago being a mid size city, and New York being tall.
