Creative
- Help tell the story visually
- Set a mood in lighting
- Assist in developing themes in lighting
- Creating a 3D look in a 2D medium
- Use creative problem solving
Technical
- Design the lighting for a project from a technical standpoint
- Maintain proper exposure for each shot/scene
- Maintain continuity in lighting for over all project and per shot/scene
- Solve problems technically
Communication
- Direct the lighting team to execute lighting plan
- Communicate with other departments to achieve the common goal: make a movie
